Ukraine has considerable resources: attractive landscapes, mountainous territory of the Carpathians and the Crimea, Sea coastal area of southern regions of Ukraine, a large number of cultural and historical landmarks.

Every year Ukraine is visited by more than 20 million tourists (25 million foreign nationals in 2008), primarily from Russia and Eastern Europe, as well as from the Western Europe and the USA. Structure of the inbound flow by country of origin is as follows: CIS countries – 11.9 million people (63% of total inbound flow), EU countries – 6.3 million (33%), other countries – 0, 6 million people (4%).

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Ukraine is among the top ten international tourist destinations by the number of visits. In 2008, Ukraine has ranked 7th.

Development trends

• According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the inflow of investment in the hotel business is constantly growing;
• On-going negotiations on the opening of international hotel chains in Ukraine;
• Substantial state investment in improvement of the airport and transport infrastructure within the framework of preparation for the finals of Euro 2012.
